Faith Communities & Climate Resilience - Virtual Summit with the Southeast Faith Leaders Network

Aug 6, 2020 04:00 PM in Eastern Time (US and Canada)

You're invited to join Creation Justice Ministries for a Virtual Summit on Climate Resilience with the Southeast Faith Leaders Network.

Coastal faith communities are not ready for climate-driven disasters like intensifying hurricanes and sea level rise. Yet, those same communities who will be most threatened also have an opportunity to play a pivotal role in building resilience in their towns and cities. Learn from people who are on the frontlines of disaster, disaster response, crafting public policy, and mapping out a faith community plan, and leave with tools to build resilience and climate preparedness in your community.

Speakers include:

Representative Kathy Castor (FL-14), Chair of the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis

Representative Don McEachin (VA-04), Co-Chair of the US House Environmental Justice Task Force and member of the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis

Gerald Godette (minister at St. Paul AME Zion, Aurora, NC). After multiple experiences of his church flooding from hurricanes, Gerald is working on climate education and resilience with his congregants.

Avery Davis Lamb (student at Duke Divinity School/Nicholas School of the Environment), will share GIS research on climate impacts on churches and reflections on how churches can be hubs of resilience.

Rev. Dr. Faith B. Harris (Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology/VA Interfaith Power and Light), will offer prayer and theological grounding.

Rachael Thompson (Executive Director of Glynn Environmental Coalition), will share about the intersection of climate resilience, disasters, and toxic Superfund sites in her community.
